2024 Call for Artist – Request for Proposals

Sampson Community College (SCC) seeks proposals for site-specific, temporary public art that will contribute to the vibrancy of the SCC campus and surrounding community. SCC encourages proposals for incisive, surprising, and unique metal-based sculpture of appropriate scale for the 10’ circular concrete pad of 8” depth. The sculpture must be professionally constructed of durable material appropriate for outdoor public display for the duration of the 12-month exhibit. 

Eligibility
Artists with original, completed, viable, appropriately scaled work (16’-21’ in height) of which they have the capacity to transport, install, and uninstall are eligible to submit.

Deadline: 5pm (EST) Thursday, February 29, 2024 


Requirements

Proposals will be reviewed relative to the following criteria:

  • Site specificity: ability of the work to engage the general public with the location
  • Quality of the work and appropriateness for SCC and neighbors
  • Originality and timeliness
  • Safety of visitors and passersby
  • Artist’s capacity to manage installation and removal

Site and Audience
Proposed works must meet safety requirements and be able to withstand the effects of weather and public use for the duration of the installation. The 10’ circular concrete pad is located next to the walking trail in the East Park of campus at the intersection of Highway 24 and Airport Road. The site has high visibility from the street and sidewalks.

Proposal packages should consist of the following and submitted digitally through email or in hard copies to above address:

1. COVER SHEET
Applicants must include a cover sheet with their name, mailing address, telephone number, email, work title, and a single paragraph of up to 150 words summarizing sculpture including dimensions.

2. PHOTOGRAPHS
Applicants must submit photographs of the work from multiple angles.

3. CURRENT RESUME OR CV
Resume or CV should include information about education; work and teaching experience; exhibition history; awards, grants, and residencies; and other relevant information.
