WD & CE Scholarships

Sampson Community College offers various scholarship initiative awards for non-degree Workforce Development & Continuing Education courses leading to industry-recognized or state credentials for high-demand jobs in the region.

Most courses can be completed in a semester or less. Our scholarship opportunities are training initiatives set to assist Sampson County residents with job transition and economic recovery.


Golden Leaf Scholars Program

Students will need to return completed applications to the Continuing Education office in the East Building in order to be processed. Applications are also available in the Continuing Education Office.

The Golden Leaf Scholars Program is awarded to increase and support North Carolina residents, particularly in underserved populations, to assist with tuition & fees among other costs.

Eligibility Criteria

Scholarship awards are determined locally based on student need, local industry needs, number of eligible students, and cost of course. The scholarships help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, and other components of the total cost of attendance for students enrolled.

These funds are specifically designated for Workforce Development & Continuing Education courses that are 96-hours or more and lead to an industry-recognized credential or licensure.

Yes.

This program intends to remove barriers for individuals seeking short-term workforce training to reenter the workforce with a program that is 96-hours or more and leads to an industry-recognized credential or licensure.

Students meeting all State and local enrollment eligibility requirements are eligible.

Yes,

as long as the program is leading to an industry recognized credential or licensure, funds can be used to assist with testing fees based on funding needs.

Courses begin January 2024. Applications for Spring 2024 are available now.

Eligibility Requirements

Scholarship awards are determined locally based on student need, local industry needs, number of eligible students, and cost of course. The scholarship helps cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, and other components of the total cost of attendance.

The scholarship requires all students to fill out the NC Residency Determination Service Form and obtain their Residency Certification Number (RCN) in order to process the application.

The Viking Works Grant Scholarship is available to students currently enrolled in the following programs at Sampson Community College Workforce Development & Continuing Education:

Eligibility Requirements

Curriculum Certificates

  • Be enrolling in a Curriculum CTE Certificate Program.
  • Identify as Hispanic/Latino ethnicity.
  • Maintain college GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Classified as In-State for tuition purposes.

WD&CE Programs

  • Be enrolling in Workforce Development& Continuing Education pathway or course leading to a NC Workforce Credential identified as either Essential or Career Level.
  • Identify as Hispanic/Latino ethnicity
