(CLINTON, N.C.) – In 2018, Cole Baxley graduated from Midway High School (MHS), and received an Associate of Arts degree from Sampson Community College (SCC). Upon graduation from both MHS and SCC, Cole went on to attend Campbell University. While at Campbell University he received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. Cole was able to obtain his bachelor’s degree in only two years due to already having an associate degree right out of high school with the help of the Career and College Promise program. Since Cole began his college education early, he has been able to begin his career at a faster pace.

Since  graduating high school, Cole has started his own business in Sampson County. His business, Alton’s Disposal, supplies disposal services to the people of Sampson County. His business also supplies these services to people outside of Sampson County. By starting his own business, Cole has been able to work with people from across the United States.

Cole began making plans to start his business after high school. The CCP program allowed him to take many of the classes needed for his degree all online, which helped Cole build the foundation for his business. Alton’s Disposal was then created five months after he graduated from high school in 2018.

When asked about his experience with the CCP program, Cole replied, “The CCP program was a wonderful stepping-stone to continue my undergraduate studies. Through the CCP program, I was better prepared going into my junior year at Campbell.”

Cole says hard-work and dedication started at an early age. When he was a child, he worked with his grandfather at a family slaughterhouse known as Martin Meats. From working as a young child, Cole has learned what it means to have a strong work ethic.

Perry Gillespie, Director of Career and College Promise, shared, “Cole was one the first students who really saw the potential in Career and College Promise. When he found out that he could be one of the first public school students in our county to earn a degree while in the program, he worked hard and diligently until it was complete. He went on to finish a four-year degree in just two years.”

Cole believes that attending SCC is an excellent choice due to low tuition costs. Because he took part in the CCP program, Cole has been able to fast track his education while still enjoying his high school and college experiences. He has been full steam ahead on finishing his education and starting his own business.

Cole Baxley has a busy future ahead of him as he prepares to expand his business. He says it all started with courses taken as a Career and College Promise student at Sampson Community College.
