(CLINTON, N.C.) – Jackson West graduated from Clinton High School in 2019. While in high school, Jackson participated in the Career and College Promise program at Sampson Community College (SCC). Upon graduation, Jackson decided to attend SCC in hopes of pursuing a career in social work. Jackson is now working towards earning his Associate Degree in General Education and an Associate Degree in Human Services Technology. With the help of SCC, Jackson will be able to transfer to achieve his goal. Jackson’s desire to help others is the driving force behind his dedication to his studies.

When asked why he choose this path of study, Jackson stated, “The main reason is being able to help people, but also balancing that with making a stable enough income as well. I can help people mentally, family wise, and anything disrupting their lives.”

Jackson has grown up in the city of Clinton and the Clinton City Schools system since he was six years old. When it was time to graduate high school, Jackson knew that SCC was a great place to start his education.

The Human Services Technology program helps prepare students for careers in the social, community, and educational services. This program is specifically for those that want to participate in the human services field. Those that graduate from this program will be able to work in agencies that are in the human services field, such as in the family services or social services field.

This is Jackson’s second year as a full-time SCC student in the Human Services Technology program and he has had a lasting impact on those around him. His will to work towards his goals has been truly shown while here at SCC.

The Department Chair of Human Services Technology, Billy Kennedy shared, “Jackson is a caring and compassionate student who seeks to understand others. He listens intently and has a desire to help. In addition to seeking an Associate Degree in General Education, he added an Associate in Human Services Technology because of his desire to become a therapist. Jackson thinks analytically and he has a natural ability to develop solutions to problems. His abilities and his empathy for others will significantly impact the lives of those he serves in the future. “

Jackson West has a great future at Sampson Community College and beyond. Jackson hopes to transfer to continue his education. He is now on route to becoming a therapist and opening his own practice one day.  Jackson was able to start his education here at Sampson Community College through the Human Services Technology program.
