Heavy Equipment Operator

Overview

The Heavy Equipment Operator Program is a one semester training program that prepares students with basic knowledge on heavy equipment identification, safety, basic field surveying and a variety of other topics needed in the construction field.

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of heavy equipment operator responsibilities, heavy equipment safety and career opportunities. Topics include orientation to the trade, safety, identification of heavy equipment, preventive maintenance, dump trucks, tractors, soils, grades, earth moving, scrapers, bulldozers, backhoes, front-end loaders, finish operator, telescoping excavators, motor graders, excavators, finishing and grading. Instruction will include driving skills tests.

Registered students will also be partnered with a local contractor to serve in a internship while participating in the program. This will give a student real-life work experience in the field while they learn from heavy equipment experts. In addition, students will receive additional certifications related to erosion control, flagging and drone operation. A student will also have the opportunity to take part in the Sampson Community College Truck Driver Training program once they complete the Heavy Equipment Operator’s program.

• Steel Toed Boots
• Book: Provided
• Heavy Equipment Kit: Provided (includes earmuffs, ear plugs, safety glasses, reflective vest, and gloves)
