Overview
The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration (HVAC) Technology curriculum provides the basic knowledge to develop skills necessary to work with residential and light commercial systems.
Topics covered include mechanical refrigeration, heating and cooling theory, electricity, controls, and safety. The diploma program covers air conditioning, furnaces, heat pumps, tools and instruments. In addition, the AAS degree covers residential building codes, residential system sizing, and advanced comfort systems. Diploma graduates should be able to assist in the startup, preventive maintenance, service, repair, and/or installation of residential and light commercial systems. AAS degree graduates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of system selection and balance and advanced systems.
Program Options
Certificate
17 credit hours
Provides students with the necessary skills and experience to identify and explain the theory, operating principle, and components of various HVAC equipment and the sequence of operation, including basic troubleshooting, system charging, piping procedures, and safety.
Diploma
37 credit hours
Provides students with the demanding skill set needed to work in the HVAC industry, including system servicing, preventive maintenance, refrigerant charging procedures, troubleshooting, EPA license, and piping Procedures.
Degree
67-68 credit hours
Provides students with the skill needed to excel in the HVAC trade students will learn Code requirements, load calculations, system design, installation, and advanced troubleshooting, including geothermal Heat Pumps, electronic expansion valves, and variable speed systems.
