Overview

This course provides a comprehensive study of operative care, patient care concepts, and professional practice concepts within the profession of surgical technology.

Topics include preoperative, perioperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care and preparation. Upon completion, students should possess the clinical skills to maintain asepsis during surgery, anticipate the surgeon’s needs, remain attentive to all aspects of the surgical procedure to ensure a safe environment, and knowledge necessary to obtain certification as an entry-level Surgical Technologist.

Prerequisite: American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR/AED

Must be provided for clinical experience:

  • Current Immunization Record
  • Physical Exam
  • 2 Step TB Skin Test
  • Flu Vaccine
  • COVID Vaccine

Note: Must complete Surgical I before entry into II
