Overview
The Small Engine Repair objective provides the student with a working knowledge & skill to learn the operation, service & repair, and to gain employment and/or upgrade skills.
The coursework provides the fundamentals from the basic beginnings of the small engine development through modern-day technology; identify the parts of a typical small engine: Two-stroke Engines vs Four Stroke Engine – to disassemble, rebuild, & reassemble. The student will be knowledgeable to identify the types of drive trains found in outdoor power equipment & summarize how to service lawn & riding mowers as well as garden tractors; identify troubleshooting & repair procedures for the most common types of outdoor power equipment.
Upon completion of the coursework, the student will demonstrate “workplace safety” and will be prepared to perform demonstrations applied via the fundamental small engine operation systems which includes compression, fuel, governor, electrical, cooling, & lubrication systems; recognize troubleshooting methods & failure analysis techniques which are applicable to industry applications.
The Small Engine Repair program of study is 240 hours; the program of study is a certification to be taught as:
Part I (Fall Semester – 128 hours)
Part II (Spring Semester – 112 hours).
