Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. According to the consensus who attended the annual Spring Arts Open House this week, there was plenty of it to go around. Tuesday evening, the college hosted its 2019 version of the event to an enthusiastic crowd.

“We love this event,” says Katie Brown, Director of Customized Training and Occupational Extension Programming for the college’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Department. “What a nice gathering. This show covers the spectrum as it relates to art, from photography and painting to flower and cake decorating. It’s awesome!”

The free event, hosted each year by the college’s Foundation and Workforce Development and Continuing Education department, features student artists from Sampson, Robeson, Duplin, Harnett and other counties.  Some items are available to buy.

“This is great because it’s one thing to learn about art over time and perfect your craft in the classroom,” adds Brown. “But how satisfying it has to be to take a work of art that you have made as a student and put it on display for the public? We have many guests that come through here for this event each year. I think it builds their confidence and provides validity to their credentials as artists, to have their work shown outside the classroom.”
