Rechuiti Scholarship

[CLINTON, N.C ]– Lisa Recchuiti has lived in and seen many places around the world, including Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Tokyo, and now North Carolina. After growing up in a small Pennsylvania town, she attended Millersville University where she studied Elementary Education and minored in Psychology. Recchuiti then went back to graduate school and received a Master’s in Developmental and Educational Psychology from Boston College. Psychology interested Recchuiti because it helped her better understand both herself and people in general. After staying home with her two children for ten years and then teaching at Cape Fear Community College for nine years Recchuiti wanted to get away from the coast, so she and her husband of twenty-nine years moved to Sampson County. Now she is a full-time Psychology Instructor at Sampson Community College (SCC).

Recchuiti lived in Wilmington while working at Cape Fear Community College and experienced the many hurricanes that hit the North Carolina coast. When an opening came up at SCC she had to jump on the opportunity because Sampson County was a good distance away from the coast. While only being at SCC for one-year, Recchuiti has noticed the family atmosphere that is present.

Recchuiti believes that there are many benefits to choosing to attend SCC. When asked why SCC is a good option Recchuiti stated, “It is a great option just because of the savings and the cost. You are going to get the same classes you would get if you went away to a four-year university, especially for students who plan to transfer. You get the same core classes that you need to take.”

Recchuiti is not only a full-time Psychology Instructor, she is also the advisor for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Phi Theta Kappa is a 2-year college Honor Society. To participate students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher and must have completed twelve credits. Recchuiti is hoping to develop a community service project for the SCC chapter. Recchuiti’s hard work and dedication to her students and SCC has not been unnoticed by her fellow employees.

When asked about Recchuiti, Division Chair of Arts and Sciences Lew Gravis says, “Ms. Recchuiti is an excellent addition to the Division of Arts and Sciences and just celebrated one year of employment at Sampson Community College. She has many years of experience teaching psychology, is very approachable, engages the students, and possesses a very positive energy. I’m glad to have her as an instructor in Arts & Sciences.”

Recchuiti has lived in many different places but enjoys the calmness of Clinton. After being at Sampson Community College for a little over a year now she has seen and felt the welcoming environment. Recchuiti still has a very bright future ahead as a Psychology Instructor, but more importantly as another member of the family here at Sampson Community College
