(CLINTON, N.C.) – Frankie Sutter has been at Sampson Community College (SCC) for seventeen years. When she first joined SCC, she began as the liaison between the President of the college and the Board of Trustees. After two years in that position, she became the Director of Personnel, while continuing her liaison duty for the Board of Trustees. As the Director of Personnel, Sutter oversees human resources through recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and retention. These are only a few of her main duties. In 2003, Sutter joined the SCC family and hopes to continue with SCC until her retirement.
Outside of work, Sutter is a wife and a mother of three. Sutter has one son in college in Virginia, a son that has just recently graduated high school and will attend NC State University, and a daughter in her second year at Clinton High School. All three of her children play soccer, meaning Sutter spends most of her free time watching and traveling to games. Over the years, this is a hobby that Sutter has grown to greatly love and enjoy.
Sutter moved back to Clinton in 2001 while still working in Raleigh. When a job opened at SCC, Sutter knew she had to jump on the opportunity. She understood that driving to and from Clinton to Raleigh each day was an obstacle, so she decided to interview for the opening here at SCC. Before she could even leave the campus, she received a call that she had gotten the job.
Sutter stated, “I’ve spent most of my life in Clinton, but until the day of my interview, I had never walked onto the SCC campus. From that first day, I felt a warmth, a sense of community, a feeling of me being able to give back to the community that helped raise me.”
Throughout her career, Sutter has seen new employees join SCC and these are some of her favorite encounters. Her favorite encounter includes when she sees those who were raised in this community come back and work for SCC. Sutter is a terrific addition to and has been a critical asset to SCC over the past many years. According to colleagues closest to her, she has a profound love for her job, and this is shown through the work that she produces for SCC.
“Frankie is an important part of the administrative team, she serves as the College’s personnel officer, and works with all our senior staff. She is the principal liaison with the trustees and provides the operational support to the board’s activities and functions. I can’t tell you how many trustees, current and former, who have privately expressed their respect for her professionalism and thanks for her personal support during their service on the Board of Trustees. Frankie is always a reasoned voice many of us turn to when we need advice or objective counsel about a wide range of issues,” commented Dr. William Starling, Sampson Community College President. “For me personally, I do not know of anyone who has been more a part of my professional journey than she has. We are all thankful that some years ago she decided to be part of the community she grew up in. She has always amazingly balanced work and the demands of raising three active children. We are all better that Frankie is a part of SCC and Clinton.”
Frankie Sutter has seen Sampson Community College grow and progress during the seventeen years that she has been here. She is a great addition to SCC and has a great future ahead here. Sampson Community College truly appreciates all of Sutter’s hard work and dedication.
