[Clinton, N.C.] – Since 2022, each November, Sampson Community College (SCC) and Sampson Early College High School (SECHS) students have teamed up through the Juntos Club to provide meals to local student families in need. With the support of AgCarolina Farm Credit, they’ve been able to distribute items to numerous families throughout the past three years.
From 2022-2023, AgCarolina has generously donated honey baked hams to the Juntos project, allowing them to distribute the goods for free to 10-15 families yearly. This year, the program didn’t plan to continue the endeavor, but after Merlos-Pulley reached out to AgCarolina, Martin Jackson, Senior Loan Officer, informed them to “meet him at Walmart.”
Merlos-Pulley shared, “He said get however many turkeys and hams we need. We were so surprised! I asked if there was a limit, and he said no just to get what we needed. Kim Whitfield got for 4 families, I got for 2. He insisted that we get anything else the families would need to go with the meat.”
Together, they ended up collecting items for 6 families, including sides to accompany the hams. The Juntos Club then assisted in the packaging of the goods for distribution this Thanksgiving to the student families in need.
“Martin has always been very kind and is happy to help students and their families in need,” thanked Merlos-Pulley. “We appreciate the kindness and how much he cares about our students!”
SCC extends its gratitude to AgCarolina Farm Credit for their generosity and partnership with the Juntos Club. The College is grateful for their continuous support of student success, allowing all students to ‘Begin Here,’ ‘Go Anywhere.’
