Duties & Responsibilities
The Trades Coordinator/Recruiter position at Sampson Community College (SCC) is a 12-month, full-time staff role reporting to the Division Chair of Occupational Programs. The primary objective of this position is to support the consortium effort between SCC, James Sprunt Community College, Wayne Community College, and Lenoir Community College in expanding job training opportunities for Hispanic students in the building trades.
- Support a Latino Advisory Committee. This committee will serve as a platform to address the specific needs and concerns of Hispanic students in the program.
- Collaborate with consortium members to achieve the workforce goals set by the program.
- Implement outreach and recruitment programs tailored to the Hispanic community. Aim to increase awareness of the training opportunities available and encourage enrollment in short-term, diploma, and degree programs focused on building construction trades.
- Assist in training program development by contributing to the development and support of training programs in the building construction trades.
- Facilitate job placement in collaboration with local employers and companies to develop job placement opportunities for students who complete the training programs successfully.
- Provide student support and advocacy by serving as a student advisor for Hispanic students throughout their educational journey.
- May include both day and evening hours.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Typical office environment, frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, mouse, and telephone; infrequently traveling between buildings on campus and off-campus meetings; occasional lifting or carrying up to 10 lbs., along with twisting or bending at the waist or reaching overhead.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate degree
- Valid NC Driver's License
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable presenting to large and small groups
- Work experience in a trade
